Bridgestone’s New Technology Vs Current Tire Printing Technology
In the current technology for printing on tires, the sidewalls use white rubber. This produces a white ribbon and white letters are printed on the sidewall. This is the technology practically all manufacturers are using today.
But a major disadvantage of this technology is that it demands a large quantity of white rubber so as to protect against discoloration and to ensure durability of the matter that is printed. This adds to the overall weight of the tire, adversely affecting the fuel efficiency and thereby impacting the environment.
The new Bridgestone Tire printing technology has been developed particularly to overcome these problems and is a step taken by the company to reiterate its commitment towards the environment.
So what is this new Technology?
Bridgestone has a developed a set of inks specifically for the purposes of printing. The core of the technology lies in the development of two protective layers which lie above and below the ink. The layer below protects the ink from discoloration, while the layer above protects it from the impact of external influences. Thus the durability of the printed matter is increased without a corresponding increase in weight of the tire, making it more fuel efficient and environment friendly.
Talking about the new technology, a Bridgestone representative said that “it (the technology) can realize the more creative showcase of tire”. We can safely infer from this statement that the ‘black and white’ of tires may soon be a thing of the past and we can look forward to exciting and colorful times ahead.
Right up to now, this technology has not yet been put to use commercially. But Bridgestone has plans to bring it to the market soon.
“A Value Addition to our Customers”, Says Bridgestone
The company is confident that its new Tire printing technology will lend itself to numerous creative applications. In fact Bridgestone is looking forward to give customers a unique opportunity to customize their tires with this technology. For instance, customers may incorporate photographs on the Tire sidewalls or create a unique custom design. Corporate vehicle can choose to sport their logos. The applications are practically limitless. The biggest advantage to be kept in mind of course is that all these designs can be changed or removed as per the customers’ preferences. The company looks at it as a unique value addition for its customers.
What is printed on Tires?
The most common and important information printed on tyres is their identification. This refers to the brand name and corporate logo. Other important information like the Tire size, load bearing capacity and maximum pressure are also printed. Over in Europe he new EU regulations require the presence of information such as noise levels, rolling resistance and wet grip resistance on the Tire sidewall.
With so much information to be printed on the tire, the new Bridgestone color printing technology will make ‘reading the tyre’ a pleasure.
